The open house event will include site tours of the newly renovated facility, provider meet-and-greets, and a formal ribbon cutting ceremony with Mayor Kristen C. Umstattd. Light fare and wine will be served.

The former 3,000 square foot facility now boasts an additional 1,591 square feet, three new treatment rooms and on-site digital x-ray services will be available in March. Naturopathic Medicine and Acupuncture services are also now offered in Leesburg.

Corporate Wellness – a Win-Win Proposition
As healthcare costs continue to rise, employers are increasingly making employee health and wellness a corporate priority. This makes perfect sense. After all, if there were an area on a corporate balance sheet or a division in a business which was consistently losing money – to the tune of hundreds of thousands of dollars annually or more - and was projected to continue doing so in the foreseeable future, would the decision-makers in that organization take a passive approach? The reality is that corporate financial health in the short- and long-term is inextricably tied to employee health. In a 2011 survey of nearly 600 employers (each with at least 1000 employees), Towers Watson found that the employer portion of health care costs per employee increased from $6,245 in 2006 to $8,008 in 2010 and $8,516 in 2011. That means that from 2010 to 2011, a 1000-employee organization would have seen health care costs increase $500,000 on average, and these costs are rising every year.

We Sink or Swim Together
What’s behind these rising costs? The top challenge cited by employers in their efforts to maintain affordable benefit coverage was employees’ poor health habits. Recognizing their stake in their employees’ health, employers are taking an active role in helping employees make changes that will improve their wellness, as well as aid in achieving the company’s financial goals. Indeed, the very definition of corporate wellness, as proposed by the authors of a 2010 article on the ROI of employee wellness programs in the Harvard Business Review, is “an organized , employer-sponsored program that is designed to support employees . . . as they adopt and sustain behaviors that reduce health risks, improve quality of life, enhance personal effectiveness, and benefit the organization’s bottom line.” For these initiatives to be considered employee wellness programs, then, both the employee and the employer must benefit, and they will, in more ways than an employer might anticipate.

For your convenience, we are now able to file claims on behalf of our patients for acupuncture services with various insurance carriers pending verification of benefits.

Effective December 1, 2011, participating insurance carriers include: United/MAMSI, Cigna/Great West, and Multiplan/PHCS. All co-pays and deductibles will apply. Please check our Web site regularly for an updated list of participating insurance carriers.

Acupuncture visits will now be $60 per visit. Patients with insurance benefits will have a claim filed on their behalf, including Community Acupuncture sessions. Self-pay patients for Community Acupuncture will be eligible for discount. Pre-paid acupuncture series will no longer be available for purchase.

"Learning the ABC's of Diabetes" is a monthly diabetes education class led by Board Certified Internist & Endocrinologist Dr. James McMurry and Registered Dietitian & Certified Diabetic Educator Amy Johnson.

Designed for patients with Type I and Type II Diabetes, this class will be offered monthly beginning in September. Introducing the Nova Diabetes Center

Nova is excited to announce the launch of the Nova Diabetes Center, a comprehensive facility providing unique medical, educational, and support services to patients with pre-diabetes, type I and type II diabetes.

Opening on Tuesday, July 19th, the Nova Diabetes Center will be located in Suite 203 of the Ashburn facility (21785 Filigree Court). Board Certified Internist and Endocrinologist Dr. James F. McMurry will head the Nova Diabetes Center and will work hand-in-hand with Registered Dietitian and Certified Diabetic Educator Amy Johnson and Naturopathic Physician Teerawong Kasiolarn. Personalized medical care, specialized labs and testing, nutritional counseling, and other medical services will be offered.

Group Naturopathic Visits with Naturopathic Physician Teerawong Kasiolarn (Kan) are now available!

Designed for up to five patients per session, each group appointment is 90-minutes in length and will address natural treatment options for varying chronic health conditions. One-on-one care and will also be provided during group visits. The July & August schedules are as follows:

-Saturday, July 23, 2011 - This group session will address natural treatment options for managing pre-diabetes and diabetes. There will be a morning session from 10 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. and an afternoon session from 1 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. in the Ashburn facility.

-Monday, July 25, 2011 - This group session will address natural treatment options for managing high cholesterol. This session is scheduled from 1 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. in the Ashburn facility.

-Tuesday, August 16, 2011 - This group session will address natural treatment options for managing high cholesterol. It is scheduled from 1 - 2:30 p.m. in the Ashburn facility.

-Saturday, August 20, 2011 - The morning session is scheduled from 9 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. and will address natural treatment options for managing high cholesterol. The afternoon session is scheduled from 1 - 2:30 p.m. and will address natural treatment options for managing pre-diabetes & diabetes. Both will be held in Ashburn.

AYFL & CLYFL Sports Physicals

Nova Medical Group will offer a free sports physical and form completion for the athletes of the Ashburn Youth Football League (AYFL)and Central Loudoun Youth Football League (CLYFL) this summer when the athlete schedules and completes his/her annual physical examination at Nova.

Annual physicals will be submitted through insurance companies. Unless additional testing or labs are required, families will only be responsible for their insurance co-pays, deductibles, and co-insurance for the annual physical. For those athletes without health insurance, there will be a $30 fee for the sports physical and form completion. Please schedule your appointment with Board Certified Pediatrician Dr. Joseph Skoloff or Board Certified Internist & Pediatrician Dr. Jeffrey Conklin today by calling 703.554.1100. Please mention that you are a member of either the AYFL or CLYFL when scheduling.

AYFL ATHLETES: The league's sports physical form/paperwork must be presented at the time of the appointment.

CLYFL ATHLETES: Proof of league registration must be presented at the time of the appointment.

Those athletes with health insurance who have already had their annual physical elsewhere are welcome to visit the urgent care center for the $70 walk-in sports physical fee. Again, AYFL players will need to bring league's sports physical form.

Lyme Disease in Loudoun County

In an effort to make our integrative services more accessible and affordable for our patients, Nova now offers Community Acupuncture Sessions. Four individuals are treated at once in a group setting, allowing for a reduced cost per person. Community acupuncturists focus on using "distal" points - below the knee and elbow, and on the head and neck - so that patients can remain fully clothed during treatment. All conditions can be treated in a group setting. Community Acupuncture Sessions are $30 per person.
